Dating Apps for Men Over 40 in Los Angeles (2026)
An honest comparison of Hinge, Match, Bumble, Tinder, Raya, The League, eharmony and Arranged for Los Angeles men over 40, with prices and features sourced and dated, and a clear answer for men who want a younger adult partner and want to be upfront about it.
Quick verdict: for a Los Angeles man over 40 who wants a relationship with someone near his age, start with Hinge, or Match if you're 45 or older. If you want a younger adult partner and would rather both of you say what you want from the first message, Arranged is built for that: browsing and matching are free, and messaging is $49.99 a month. Use two apps at most, and set your search by drive time, not miles.
We run Arranged, which is on this list, so weigh that section accordingly. Competitor prices and features come from the sources named next to them, with dates. The rankings are our opinion.
Los Angeles is a hard city to date in for reasons that have nothing to do with you. The U.S. Census Bureau's 2024 estimates put about 9.8 million people in Los Angeles County, spread from the beach to the far side of two mountain ranges, and INRIX's 2024 Global Traffic Scorecard estimated LA drivers lost 88 hours to congestion that year. An app can show you a great match in Long Beach. It can't get you from Encino to Long Beach at 6 p.m. on a Thursday.
You're also not unusual for being on an app at 40-something. Pew Research Center found, in a survey published February 2, 2023, that 37% of US adults aged 30 to 49 had ever used a dating site or app, as had 20% of those aged 50 to 64. Here's how the main options compare for a man in LA, and how to use them in a city this size.
Quick answer
Hinge: best for men who can write and want a relationship. Match: best for men 45+ wanting someone close to their age. Bumble: broad reach, and since August 2026 either person can message first. Tinder: volume, mostly younger and casual. Raya: membership by application, with a wait. eharmony: slow and compatibility-first. Arranged: men open to an age gap with a younger adult woman who want both sides to be clear about what they're looking for.
The apps compared

Hinge: the best general pick for men over 40 in LA
Hinge describes itself as "designed to be deleted" (its App Store listing and help center), and its profiles are built around written prompts as well as photos. That's why we rank it first. In a city with no shortage of very good photos, a profile that says something specific and a little funny about you stands out more than another shot in good light. Men with a few decades of stories have an edge there.
Free members can message matches, with a daily cap on likes. Hinge+ removes that cap, and its App Store listing showed it at $16.99 and $19.99 when we checked on October 25, 2026. In our experience Hinge leans toward people looking for a relationship, which is either exactly what you want or a slight mismatch if you're open about wanting a clear age gap.
Match: still where many divorced men in their 40s and 50s end up
Match is one of the oldest dating platforms still running, and in our view it's where a lot of men in their late 40s and 50s looking for someone near their own age go first. You can't read messages on a free account, per DatingScout. Its App Store listing showed "1 Month Standard" at $44.99 on October 25, 2026, and DatingScout's pricing, updated September 20, 2026, put a twelve-month Standard plan at $21.84 a month.
The paywall filters out casual browsers, which helps. The interface feels dated, which doesn't. If you're hoping to meet a woman in her 20s or early 30s, you'll find fewer of them here than on the other apps.
Bumble: the app that dropped its signature rule
For most of its life Bumble's defining rule was that in matches between men and women, the woman sent the first message. That changed in August 2026, when Bumble said all users could send the first message, citing a company survey in which 66% of women said they preferred men to message first (CNN, August 13, 2026).
So Bumble now works more like the other big apps. Its App Store listing showed Premium at $17.99 to $32.99 on October 25, 2026, without saying which plan length each price covers. In our opinion it's a decent second app in LA for reach, with intentions all over the map.
Tinder: the LA lawsuit over charging older users more
Tinder has the biggest name, and in our experience it skews young and casual. Gold cost $39.99 for one month at Android Authority's November 2025 US list prices. Men over 40 in California have a particular reason to know its pricing history. In Candelore v. Tinder, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, a user alleged that Tinder charged members 30 and older more for Tinder Plus than younger members. In January 2018 the California Court of Appeal held that this kind of blanket age-based pricing can violate the state's Unruh Civil Rights Act, and the parties later agreed, on September 10, 2025, to settle for $60.5 million (Match Group's quarterly report for the quarter ended September 30, 2025).
If you use Tinder, set the age filters carefully and expect a lower match rate than you had at 28.
Raya, The League and eharmony
Raya's App Store listing says membership "is available by application only" and that applications are reviewed by a committee, which can take "anywhere from days to months." When we checked on October 29, 2026, the listing showed memberships from $24.99, plus a $7.99 option to "Skip the Wait." In our opinion it's a fine add-on if you don't mind not knowing when, or whether, you'll get in. It isn't a plan.
The League uses your LinkedIn profile as part of its vetting, and its App Store listing showed a one-month Premium Membership at $99.99 on October 25, 2026. eharmony says its Compatibility Quiz has 39 questions and takes most people about 20 minutes, and it matches you on the result. Both are slow by design. If you want a date this weekend, neither is your app.
Arranged: for men who want a younger adult partner and want to be clear about it
Here's the gap the mainstream apps leave. If you're 47 and interested in a woman of 29, Hinge and Match will let you set that age range, but nothing on those apps tells you whether she's open to a wide gap. You find out three dates and a lot of driving in.
Arranged is built the other way round. Both people say upfront what they're looking for, including the age gap and how they'd like a relationship to work: how often you can see each other, whether one of you travels, whether you want something exclusive. On Arranged, the median man is 39, the median woman is 26, and the median age gap across 1,864 matches is 19 years. Men's first messages to women 25 or more years younger got replies 40% of the time, about the same as messages across a gap under five years (41%). Everyone on Arranged is 18 or older. Full figures are in our 2026 data report.
How it works for men: browsing full profiles, liking, matching and seeing who liked you are free. Premium is $49.99 a month, or $499 a year, to read and send messages, and lets you hide from search and hide your income. Diamond is $99.99 a month or $999 a year and adds private browsing, hidden read receipts and last seen, priority placement and a weekly 24-hour boost. Women join and message free. Photo verification is optional: a live selfie checked automatically for a face and apparent age. It isn't compared to the profile photos, so a video call before you meet is still the best check.
The honest downsides: Arranged launched in 2026, so it's much smaller than Hinge or Bumble, and members often meet across cities rather than across town. Not every profile is verified. And clarity about the relationship doesn't make it a transaction. California Penal Code §647(b) prohibits prostitution, and Arranged bans exchanging money or gifts for sex.
Set your radius by drive time, then look beyond LA
A 25-mile radius in LA can include matches you'd see every week and matches you'd never realistically reach on a weeknight. Before you set a radius, think about which freeways you're actually willing to sit on, and say in your profile which part of town you're in.
Then, on Arranged at least, widen it. 86% of men's first messages crossed 250 miles or more, and messages crossing 1,000 miles got replies 37% of the time, against 35% for those under 25 miles. Orange County is next door, San Diego is about two hours by car or three by Pacific Surfliner, and the Bay Area is a flight of about an hour and twenty minutes. Our California guide has the drive times, and the guide to travel dating for men covers hosting a visit well.
How to get more replies on any app
Keep your first message short and ask her something. On Arranged, openers of 60 to 149 characters got replies 41% of the time, against 18% for 150 characters or more, and openers with a question got replies 50% of the time against 33% without. The median reply came about seven hours later, so checking once a day is plenty.
Lead with a recent, well-lit photo of your face. Skip the sunglasses, the group shots and the photo from 2014. Our first message guide has more examples, and the dating over 40 guide for men covers profiles end to end.
First dates in Los Angeles
Keep the first one short, public and fair to both of you in drive time. The Getty Center in Brentwood is free with a timed reservation (parking is paid). LACMA on Wilshire is a short drive from the Original Farmers Market at Third and Fairfax. Downtown, The Broad has free general admission and Grand Central Market is a block away. Drive yourself, tell a friend where you'll be, and check air quality on AirNow.gov before anything outdoors during fire season. Our Los Angeles guide and the Los Angeles city page have more.
