Dating After Divorce in Dallas: A Guide for Men (2026)

A practical guide for men in Dallas–Fort Worth dating again after divorce: when to start, telling your kids, a profile that's honest about where you are, first dates around DFW, and privacy that isn't concealment.

By The Arranged Team

Quick verdict: most men in Dallas–Fort Worth do best waiting until the divorce is final, or at least until their lawyer says dating won't complicate the case, then starting slowly. Keep the kids out of it until something is serious, write a profile that says "divorced" plainly, and make first dates short and public. Privacy is fine. Hiding things from people who have a right to know is not.

This is general information, not legal advice. Texas divorce law has real consequences, so talk to a family lawyer about your own case. We run Arranged, and the reply figures below come from our own member data.

You signed the papers, or you're about to, and a friend at work says you should "get back out there." In Dallas, out there is a metroplex from Denton to Waxahachie, a dozen apps, and a dating culture that has changed since you last tried it. The good news: men coming out of a marriage are often better at dating than they think. You know how to show up, how to plan, and what you don't want.

This guide is that plan: when to start, what to tell your kids, how to write a profile that's honest about where you are, where to go on a first date in DFW, and how to keep your private life private without crossing into secrecy.

Quick answer

Wait until your divorce is final or your lawyer is comfortable. Date for a few months before you introduce anyone to your kids. Say you're divorced on your profile. Meet first dates somewhere public, like Klyde Warren Park or a museum, and drive yourself. Use an app's privacy settings to stay out of view of coworkers and clients, and never use them to keep a spouse or partner in the dark.

When can you start dating after a divorce in Texas?

Legally, nothing stops you from going on a date the day you file. Practically, there are good reasons to wait.

Texas has a minimum waiting period: a court generally can't grant a divorce before the 60th day after the petition was filed (Texas Family Code §6.702), with a narrow exception tied to family violence. Plenty of divorces take far longer than 60 days, especially with children or a business involved. Until the decree is signed, you are still married.

Two more Texas facts, in general terms. Texas is a community property state: property either spouse acquired during the marriage is generally community property, and property held when the marriage ends is presumed to be community property (Texas Family Code §§3.002–3.003). And adultery is one of the fault grounds a Texas court can consider (§6.003), while the court divides the community estate in a way it considers "just and right" (§7.001).

What that means for your love life is a question for your lawyer, not for a dating blog. Some lawyers will tell you a dinner out is harmless. Others will tell you to wait, especially if custody is contested or if money you spend on a new relationship could be framed as wasting community funds. Ask the question directly. It's a five-minute conversation, and it's cheaper than the alternative.

Are you ready, or just lonely?

Being lonely after a divorce is normal. Dating to fix loneliness usually isn't. A few honest checks before you download anything:

Can you talk about your ex for two minutes without your jaw tightening? If not, a date will hear about her for forty. Do you want to meet someone, or prove something to someone? And is your schedule stable enough to keep the plans you make?

If you're not sure what you want, that's allowed too. Some men want a relationship again quickly. Others want a year of dating without any plan to remarry. Our national guide to dating after divorce for men over 40 goes deeper on figuring that out.

How to tell your kids you're dating

Short version: later than you'd like, and in plain words.

Your kids don't need to know about first dates. They need to know about a person once that person is going to be around. Our advice is to wait until a relationship has lasted several months and looks like it will continue. Introducing a string of people who then vanish is harder on children than a parent who seems to have no social life at all.

When the time comes, tell them before they meet her, and tell them yourself. Keep it simple: you've been seeing someone, you like her, and nothing about your relationship with them changes. Let them ask questions. Don't ask them to keep secrets from their mother, and don't make them messengers.

Check your custody order or parenting plan too. Some orders include conditions about overnight guests while the children are with you. If yours does, follow it. If you don't know, ask your lawyer. And keep your kids off your dating profile entirely: no photos of them, no names, no school logos in the background. Our guide to dating as a divorced dad covers scheduling around custody weeks.

Writing a dating profile after divorce

Be clear about three things: that you're divorced (not "separated," unless you are, and then say so), whether you have kids, and roughly where in DFW you live. A woman in Frisco and a man in Mansfield are about an hour apart on a good day. She'd like to know.

Leave the divorce story out. "Divorced, two kids, good friends with my coparent" is plenty.

For photos, start with a recent, well-lit shot of your face, then a full-length one, then one or two of you doing something you actually do on a weekend. Crop out the wedding. On Arranged, women's profiles with at least one public photo averaged 12.1 likes over 90 days against 2.3 with none. We measured women there, not men, but no one has ever been helped by a blank profile.

Then the bio. Two or three specific sentences beat a list of adjectives. "I coach my son's soccer team in Richardson, I'm trying to learn to smoke a brisket without ruining it, and I'd like to see more of Fort Worth than the stockyards" gives her three easy things to ask about.

First messages that get answered

If you last dated before apps, shorter is better. In Arranged's 2026 data report, men's first messages of 60 to 149 characters got replies 41% of the time, against 18% for 150 characters or more, and openers with a question got replies 50% of the time against 33% without. One or two sentences about her profile, ending with a question. The median reply came about 7 hours later, so a quiet afternoon is not a no.

First dates in Dallas–Fort Worth

A first date after divorce should be short, public and easy to leave. Coffee, lunch, a walk.

In Dallas, Klyde Warren Park sits on a deck over Woodall Rodgers Freeway between Uptown and the Arts District, with food trucks and enough space to walk and talk. The Dallas Museum of Art is next door, and a museum is one of the best first-date formats there is: you always have something to talk about, and an hour is a natural length. The Dallas Arboretum on White Rock Lake works for a daytime date, and so does a walk around the Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff.

In Fort Worth, the Kimbell Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth sit across the street from each other in the Cultural District, and the Fort Worth Botanic Garden is close by.

Drive yourself, and expect her to drive herself. Tell a friend where you'll be. And keep the conversation about your lives now. One mention of the divorce is honest. Five is a therapy session she didn't sign up for. More DFW options are on our Dallas page and Fort Worth page.

Privacy that isn't concealment

If you're a partner at a firm in Uptown, a doctor in the Medical District, or simply someone who'd rather your clients not scroll past your face, wanting privacy while you date is completely reasonable. Use a personal email, not your work one. Leave your employer's name out of your bio. Pick photos that aren't already on LinkedIn. Move to a phone number only when you're ready.

Apps can help. On Arranged, Premium lets you hide your profile from search and hide your income, and Diamond adds private browsing, so you don't appear in the profile views of the people you look at, plus hidden read receipts and last seen.

Here's where the line is. Privacy means choosing who sees your dating life. Concealment means hiding it from someone who has a right to know, like a spouse while you're still married, or a partner who thinks you're exclusive. The first is good sense. The second hurts people, and during a divorce it can complicate your case. If you're still married and not yet divorced, be honest with the women you meet about exactly where things stand. Some will tell you to call when the decree is signed, which is useful to know.

One more privacy point: don't discuss the details of your case with a date, in person or in writing. That's between you and your lawyer.

Dating someone younger after divorce

Plenty of men coming out of a long marriage are interested in women younger than their ex, which is a legitimate thing to want between adults. On Arranged, the median man is 39, the median woman is 26, and the median age gap across 1,864 matches is 19 years. Everyone on Arranged is 18 or older.

What works is the same as at any age: be honest about your situation, treat her as an equal, and don't make the gap the topic. See our guide to dating younger women respectfully.

Where Arranged fits

Arranged is a dating app for men and women who want to be upfront about what they're looking for, including an age gap. Women join and message free. Men browse full profiles, like and match free, and pay for Premium at $49.99 a month to read and send messages. Diamond, at $99.99 a month, adds the privacy features above and a weekly 24-hour boost. Photo verification is optional: a live selfie checked automatically for a face and apparent age. It isn't compared to anyone's profile photos, so a video call before meeting is still the best check.

Texas law prohibits prostitution (Texas Penal Code §43.02), and Arranged bans exchanging money or gifts for sex. That's not what the site is for.

Look beyond the metroplex

Many men set their search radius to 25 miles out of habit. On Arranged, 86% of men's first messages crossed 250 miles or more, and messages crossing 1,000 miles got replies 37% of the time, against 35% under 25 miles. Distance didn't hurt. If you're in Dallas and you'd enjoy a weekend in Houston or Austin now and then, our guide to dating across Texas cities covers drive times, Southwest shuttles from Love Field, and how to split who travels.

For a comparison of the apps themselves, see dating apps for men over 40 in Houston. They work the same in DFW.

Frequently asked questions

How soon after divorce should a man start dating?

There's no fixed rule. Most men do better waiting until the divorce is final and they can talk about their ex calmly. If your case is still pending in Texas, ask your family lawyer before you start, especially if custody or property is contested.

Can I date while my divorce is pending in Texas?

You're still legally married until the decree is signed, and adultery is one of the fault grounds a Texas court can consider (Texas Family Code §6.003). Whether dating could affect your case depends on the facts, so ask a family lawyer. This isn't legal advice.

How long is the waiting period for a divorce in Texas?

A Texas court generally can't grant a divorce before the 60th day after the petition is filed (Texas Family Code §6.702), with a narrow family-violence exception. Many divorces take longer.

When should I introduce a new partner to my kids?

Once the relationship has lasted several months and looks like it will continue. Tell your children yourself before they meet her, keep it simple, and check whether your parenting plan says anything about overnight guests.

Where should I go on a first date in Dallas?

Somewhere public and easy to leave: Klyde Warren Park, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Dallas Arboretum, or the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth. Keep it to an hour or two and drive yourself.

Should I say I'm divorced on my dating profile?

Yes. Say you're divorced, whether you have kids, and roughly where in DFW you live. Leave the story of the divorce for later, if at all.

Start again, at your own pace.
